The guidance department will be sponsoring a bereavement support group at Rock Lake for the 2008-2009 school year.
This program is for all students who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, grandparent, or childhood friend. Many school age students have to deal with the death of a loved one during their school years. Anger, sorrow, guilt and pain are some emotions students may experience but may be unable to talk about. Behavioral changes may take place at home and in school as a result of the grief and loss. This program offers the opportunity for students to explore their feelings and meet with peers who are in a similar situation. A group experience may help alleviate one’s sense of isolation and frustration.
This will be a six-week program. Any student who is interested in participating will need to see their grade level counselor to get a parent permission form. In order for this group to take place we will need at least 10 participants.
